LOCAL NEWS
What’s happening in Irvine?

  • Tuesday, November 5th is Election Day! If you haven't filled out your vote-by-mail ballot and sent it in, do it TODAY! 

  • You can mail your completed ballot through the U.S. Postal Service (no stamp is required) or drop it off at any of the Irvine Official Ballot Drop Box locations. For a list of Ballot Drop Box locations in Irvine, click here.

  • If you are using an Official Ballot Drop Box, your ballot must be placed in the Ballot Drop Box BEFORE 8pm on Tuesday, November 5th.

  • If you are mailing your ballot via the U.S. Postal Service, your ballot must be mailed BEFORE the last pickup of the day so that it is postmarked by Tuesday, November 5th.

  • For those of you who prefer voting in-person, that option is available through Vote Centers that are open on Monday from 8am until 8pm. On Election Day (Tuesday, November 5th), Vote Centers will be open from 7am until 8pm.

  • Remember: Under California's "same day" voting law, if you or someone in your household is not registered to vote, you can register and vote at the same time at any Vote Center in Irvine.

  • Walnut Avenue south of Jeffrey Road will be completely closed Thursday, November 7, at 11 p.m. to Friday, November 8, at 5 a.m. for work on the Jeffrey Open Space Trail Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge Project. 

  • Access to area residences and businesses will be maintained; however, there will be no access to the southbound I-5 Freeway on- and off-ramps or Caltrans Park & Ride during the overnight closure hours. 

  • The entire project is anticipated to be complete in March 2026.

Local Business Spotlight

On Oct. 21, 2024, Irvine officials approved purchasing the building (17622 Armstrong Ave. in Irvine) to create a homeless shelter that’s expected to offer a variety of services.

  • Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan is calling for a special meeting on Election Day to reconsider her recent approval of purchasing land for a homeless shelter.

  • The meeting comes just hours before polls close, following years of debate over the shelter’s location and whether the city should have one.

  • Last month, the City Council voted 4-1 to approve buying two buildings in the Irvine Business Complex for $20 million to establish the city’s first homeless shelter.

The Irvine Spectrum is one of Irvine's two major business centers, spanning 5,000 acres with 38 million square feet of commercial space and home to 3,500 companies that employ nearly 80,000 people.

  • Inari Medical, Inc., one of Orange County’s fastest-growing medical technology firms, recently secured a lease for 27,000 square feet of office space in Discovery Park, located within Irvine Spectrum District.

  • The firm specializes in minimally invasive and catheter-based technologies for treating a variety of diseases, including venous thromboembolism – a life-threatening condition caused by blood clots.

  • Announced on November 4, 2024, Hub International Limited (Hub) has acquired the retail insurance brokerage business of Western Growers Insurance Services (WGIS), expanding its agribusiness offerings and enhancing WGIS's growth potential.

  • With 10 offices in California and Arizona, WGIS specializes in risk management, insurance products, and employee benefits, strengthening Hub’s existing capabilities in the agricultural sector.

  • WGIS leaders, including President Jeff Gullickson, will join Hub, bringing extensive industry expertise. WGIS clients will gain access to a broader range of insurance solutions while maintaining regional expertise in agriculture.
